Elzéard is a mission-driven movement of doers, thinkers, and dreamers who, guided by a deep ecological compass, work with conviction and concrete action to create living landscapes. Our mission is to reverse species loss and restore resilient ecosystems. Our roots lie in the Three-Country Region where Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany meet — a unique border area rich in species diversity, historical cultural landscapes, and agricultural heritage. Here, we work for a healthy, connected landscape along an ecological corridor, where we work with our own farm, farmers, volunteers, residents, and partners to restore the natural balance.
At the heart of our approach is strengthening nature connections, so insects, animals, and plants can move freely and ecosystems become more resilient. We combine nature restoration with regenerative agriculture by applying farming practices that improve soil, water, and biodiversity. Planting native species and managing water naturally further contribute to an environment in which all forms of life can flourish together.
We take a holistic approach, grounded in care and respect for the living whole. As a private foundation, we create tangible change with a small team and a network of committed volunteers — not through quick fixes, but through long-term collaboration with everyone willing to take responsibility for the living world of which we are part.

Along a network of nature corridors, we focus on two core pillars. The first is restoring habitats and ecological balance by reconnecting fragmented nature areas, improving conditions for species, and giving natural processes room to recover. The second is developing real-world examples of a regenerative economy: production that not only strengthens local communities, but also actively contributes to nature restoration. These activities are concentrated in the transition zones around the nature corridors, where careful use goes hand in hand with strengthening ecological cohesion. This includes woody crops and fiber crops, bio-based building materials, seeds and compost, and initiatives in education, craftsmanship, and restoration building. By actively involving farmers and other residents, we are building a resilient, connected living environment together. As a farmer, Elzéard is part of this process; we work with local communities and share knowledge. This collaboration brings nature restoration and socio-economic development together in practice.
Another concrete example of collaboration is Elzéard’s land exchange program. By purchasing and exchanging land ourselves, we help farmers swap less suitable plots for land that better fits their operations. In this way, we strengthen both agricultural productivity and habitat for plants and animals.

To accept that nature makes its own decisions in all its complexity.
The Elzéard Foundation does this in carefully chosen, specific places in our landscape and contributes to climate resilience by giving the ecosystem’s self-regulating functions a helping hand.

Farm Elzéard is a testing center for developing business models in agriculture that produce food and other resources while regenerating nature and landscape.
We promote local, circular, and economically viable agriculture based on a holistic ecosystem approach to develop a resilient and climate-resistant food landscape.
We do this by launching our own projects and seeking collaboration with farmers and other actors in the region. Agroforestry is one of our key focus areas.

Along slow routes
The Three Border Region is well known and popular for day trips and short stays. However, the current landscape is in poor condition, with a loss of heritage features, natural remnants, and ecological connections.
Elzéard, together with partners and public authorities, actively works to strengthen the ecological coherence of the landscape. Through the Full Nature Trails® initiative, an essential corridor and lifeline for both people and the more-than-human world is being brought back to life.
Old, forgotten walking paths are rediscovered and linked to existing networks, while natural and landscape elements are carefully integrated. This creates a fluid interaction between nature and experience, in which biodiversity flourishes and the beauty of the landscape becomes visible and tangible again.
