Elzéard

Elzéard is a private foundation, part of a global community of conservationists devoted to protecting wild landscapes and the life-sustaining corridors that connect them. We share the conviction that every form of life, and the habitats that sustain it, holds intrinsic value and the right to flourish in freedom.

Through targeted funding, land protection, and on-the-ground projects, we work to restore ecosystems and revive the natural processes that keep our planet alive. An essential part of this mission is renewing regenerative bonds between human communities and the more-than-human world, nurturing ways of life that allow both to thrive.

We work independently and with careful choices, always with an eye for meaningful and lasting impact. We support people and projects that, with courage and dedication, contribute to protecting wild nature and restoring ecosystems. We focus on initiatives that have the strength to grow and inspire others. We do this in a way that empowers people and gives them the space to take responsibility themselves. At the same time, we remain committed to results that are sustainable and that help build a broader movement. We value transparency about our choices and their effects, making clear how our efforts contribute to nature restoration and climate action.

PARTNERSHIPS

PROJECTS

We engage in carefully chosen conservation projects that safeguard large, connected landscapes where wildlife can thrive. We support initiatives led by local organizations, ensuring that restoration is rooted in place, driven from within, and resilient over time.

Creating Wildlife Highways Reconnecting Parks for a Wilder Future

In the Tri-Border Region, where Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany meet, lies an area with a unique wealth of natural and hedgerow landscapes. Here, along a network of scenic, historic paths, we focus on two key pillars:

  1. Establishing a transnational rewilding corridor and vital migration route for wildlife through strategic land acquisition and rewilding efforts. This initiative connects national parks with permanent protection, forming an integrated network of national park-level corridors.

  2. Regenerative Buffer Zone:  Creating a regenerative zone along the rewilding corridor, highlighting pioneering examples of regenerative practices that blend agriculture, food production, and sustainable tourism.

Patagonia National Park

Partner Rewilding Chile
Visitors Centre

As part of its mission to inspire action, Elzéard supports initiatives that raise awareness of the eco-social crisis, highlight the transformative power of nature-focused action, and underscore the importance of protecting large areas.

Located in the heart of Patagonia, a unique visitor center offers an inspiring and profound experience with an exceptionally ambitious goal: not just to inform visitors but to inspire them to take action.

Thanks to contributions from Elzéard and its funders, the interior of this center took shape as a powerful tool to inspire visitors to protect vast landscapes and our planetary biosphere on which all life depends.

Jaguar Rivers Initiative

A collaborative effort

The Jaguar Rivers Initiative is a bold and urgent continental effort dedicated to restoring, protecting, and connecting ecosystems in the heart of South America.

Through an unprecedented alliance conformed of four leading grassroot organizations, our mission is to safeguard one of the largest river systems in the world, securing the viability of endangered species and the resilience of local communities, thereby contributing to the restoration of global ecological integrity.

Patagonia Azul

Partner Rewilding Argentina

Patagonia Azul is safeguarding one of South America's largest coastal areas by protecting and restoring critical habitats across coastal ecosystems and the Patagonian steppe. Spanning 3.1 million hectares, this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is a biodiversity hotspot, home to over sixty protected islands and bays that support seabirds and marine mammals. By expanding conservation efforts and promoting a restorative economy through marine tourism and regenerative production, the project strengthens the connection between land and sea. Patagonia Azul offers a unique opportunity to align conservation with sustainable local development, creating a thriving future for both nature and communities.

Foundation Conservation
Carpathia

Partner Carpatia, Romania

This ambitious project in the Carpathians aims to establish Europe’s largest wilderness reserve. By acquiring and protecting land, it restores biodiversity and creates a sanctuary for wildlife such as bears, lynxes, and wolves.

Our collaboration helps safeguard ancient forests and restore a sustainable ecosystem that supports wolves, bears, and other wild species.

Meso-American
Biological Corridor

Partner Fundaeco, Guatemala

The Meso-American Corridor is a vital lifeline for countless animal and plant species, including the iconic jaguar.

By supporting local NGOs like Fundaeco in Guatemala, Elzéard contributes to efforts to protect and sustain this critical connection for generations to come.

Parque El Impenetrable

Partner Rewilding Argentina

El Impenetrable National Park protects 128,000 hectares of the Gran Chaco ecosystem, a biodiverse region with vast forests, grasslands, and wetlands. It is home to iconic species such as the jaguar, giant anteater, and maned wolf. The diverse landscapes create a unique biodiversity, ranging from dry forests to wetlands along the Bermejo River. The Park is being restored to its original natural splendor by reintroducing locally extinct species and actively managing threatened habitats, to ensure the ecosystem and its iconic inhabitants can thrive. Within the park’s protected areas, Rewilding Argentina is dedicated to fostering sustainable economies in neighboring communities through wildlife-watching tourism, creating opportunities that harmonize conservation with local livelihoods.

CAREERS

Elzéard is advancing a bold initiative in the tri-border region of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany: a Transnational Wildlife Corridor where wild nature can thrive, species move freely, and communities reconnect across boundaries.

In recent years, groundwork has been laid — rewilding and farmland restoration, land acquisition, ecological connectivity, mosaic landscapes, and cross-border collaboration.

The task now is to scale up with greater ambition: strengthening partnerships, anchoring long-term governance, growing the land base through acquisition and exchange, and shaping a resilient transboundary protected area — one that can stand the test of time through rewilding and agro-ecological buffer zones.

To realize this, we are building a diverse, multidisciplinary team that brings together leadership, ecological expertise, and organizational strength. We are recruiting a Conservation Leader — someone to guide strategy, build partnerships, and anchor long-term protection of the corridor as a safeguarded landscape for generations to come — as well as team members in ecology and organizational management. Together, they will form the backbone of the initiative: translating vision into action, ensuring solid management, and shaping a cross-border protected area.
